What Katie [McGrath] Did

Katie McGrath plays kick-ass Morgana, evil sorceress and just a wronged daughter who wants nothing but Arthur's throne in Merlin and is more than just a magic wielding beauty.  Katie used to be a wardrobe assistant on BBC series The Tudors, admits she couldn't sew and so (no pun) decided to go into acting.  She hasn't gone to drama school and says it's not necessary if you have a good agent.  Of course getting an agent isn't easy, not even as a writer, speaking from my own personal experience; but she happened to have succeeded.

Growing up in a small Irish town, she didn't know or meet any actors until her time on The Tudors and found them to be "intelligent, passionate and engaging about what they were doing."  Working on Merlin for five years meant the cast got to know each really well and Katie thinks of them as family.  Filming on the fifth and final series ended in October and she believes the show's popularity extends to it being family orientated.  "Every character got to tell their story from beginning to end, which is a privilege as an actor."

She had plenty to learn from Colin Morgan who plays Merlin and describes him as being"an absolute acting genius."  He's really going places with his talent and the show has propelled him to global success.

Katie was directed by Madonna in WE and was in awe at being on set with her at first, but that wears off and you have to get the work done.  Other shows coming up with her include Labyrinth and she would "melt into a puddle" if she was offered a part in the up and coming new Star Wars films and would covet her own action figure.  She likes playing bad women as they have more to offer in terms of character and being engaging and enthralling.  Also cos she's so good, it makes a change playing the bad girl role.

Katie will be watching the final episode of Merlin with her family and watch out for Katie in the future too, cos she's another Merlin actor who is going places.
